  • In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
“Behold verily on the friends of Allah there is no fear, nor shall they grieve; those who believe and (constantly) guard against evil”. (Quran, Surah Yunus 10/62-63)

The Life of the Great Sheikh

Hazrat khwaja Sufi Muhammad Aslam Sahib was born on 10th March 1952 in Samla Gura Sharif, Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan.  Their fathers name was Choudhary Feroz Din, who was a man of great piety and principles.

Their early Islamic teachings began at the local mosque by Imam Chirag Din. From a very early age they where attracted to the principles of Islam and had very little interest in sport and recreation. On one occasion they were taken to a wrestling match and the tradition was each wrestler would come into the field with a well oiled body and exhibit his muscles. The wrestler would also demonstrate their strength by lifting very heavy objects. At seeing this, the crowd would jeer and place their bets. However the Sheikh was not impressed and said to himself “This is not manhood, manhood is living your life according to Islam.”

They received their basic education at Dhumaal Sharif from Imam Abdul Qayyum and Master Sangher. They both noticed that the Sheikh was a unique student and predicted that one day he would hold a very high position in Islam. The Sheikh always had an interest in Islamic literature, namely reading about the Virtues of the Zikr of Allah and stories of the saints.

They were invited to England by their cousin in 1967.  They noticed that the British way of life and customs were very different to Islam,

also previous Muslims had been influenced by the western culture.  This did not have an effect on the Sheikh who remained steadfast in Islam.  They also continued their childhood routine of reciting Durood Ibrahimi excessively, especially on Fridays. One night the Sheikh slept and their destiny awoke, they saw a dream, the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Mustapha  sitting and leaning against a pillar in their mosque. The Prophet  turns to Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (RA), who had a book in his hand and said "Right their name (Hazrat Sufi Muhammad Aslam Sahib) in the book".

They began work in various factories across England.  Whilst working in Bradford they made a friend by the name of Hazrat Sufi Nur Muhammad Sahib who introduced them to zikr gatherings.  This was held under the supervision of Sultan ul Aulia, Qibla Alam Hazrat Khwaja Sufi Muhammad Aslam Sahib (RA).  This gathering had a life changing effect upon Sheikh, because they had finally discovered in practice what they had been searching for all of their life.  Attending the gatherings on a regular basis increased the Sheikhs’ spirituality and they gave bay’ah on the blessed hand of Qibla Alam (RA) in September 1977.

On the day they did bay’ah they were blessed with a dream, they saw Qibla Alam (RA) who tells them to look up at the sky.  They see the kaabah and the Prophets’ Mosque, but the Sheikh replies “I desire steadfastness and not miracles”.  Qibla Alam then tells them to look down at the ground, where they see a patch of grass.  Qibla Alam (RA) spits on to it and instantly it grows very tall.  The Sheikh replies again, “I desire steadfastness not miracles”.  Qibla Alam (RA) was so pleased with the answers, that he rewarded the Sheikh with a plate of halva (semolina), and said to them “Inshallah, Allah will bless you”.

After bay’ah they began to recite the Naqshbandia Mujaddadiya Aslamiyya waziefs on a daily basis and they established zikr gatherings at their home.
As a result of their steadfastness and truthfulness Qibla Alam (RA) gave them khilafat and permission to take on bay’ah.  They showed humbleness to this new responsibility.  One night they were blessed by seeing the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Mustapha  in a dream who also told them to take on bay’ah.

In 1997 the Sheikh was blessed to make the pilgrimage to Mecca and Madina to perform the annual Hajj with Qibla Alam (RA).  The Sheikh saw an opportunity where they had the privilege to massage the blessed legs of Qibla Alam (RA).  While they were doing this Qibla Alam (RA) became very pleased, and the Sheikh in turn would feel peace and tranquillity.  Qibla Alam (RA) continued to concentrate (twujjo) on the Sheikh and fill them with faiz.   Qibla Alam (RA) then spoke with great love, affection and gentleness, “Sufi Sahib, you also have the same name as I do (Muhammad Aslam), hence I have faith that you will honour my name and carry this great mission to the ummah (nation) of the Holy Prophet .”  The Sheikh replied with humbleness “Inshallah, with your spiritual nigaah (sight), twujjo (concentration) and duahs (supplications) I will remain steadfast on your teachings and carry this mission forward”.

“You have received the faiz from Khwaja-eh-Khwajgaan,
    Hazoor Qibla Alam.
You also have the same name as your master,
    Sufi Muhammad Aslam.
Day and night you strive to revive the Sunnah of
    Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
You have sincerity in your heart and your words are of wisdom”.

Al-hamdulliah, the sweetness in their voice and the sincerity in their heart began to attract people who eventually began to repent on their hand, especially the youth.

When Qibla Alam (RA) passed away a bigger responsibility came upon them to propagate the message of Islam.

They are the inheritor and distributor of Qibla Alams’ faiz and are amongst the Friends of Allah.  Their hard work has illuminated many, and their disciples are also carrying out this mission to different parts of the world.  Under the guidance of the Great Sheikh there is a zikr gathering, everyday of the week, morning and evening in Bradford.  The main zikr gathering is in the Great Sheikhs’ house every Saturday at 7pm.  Khatame Khwajgan Sharif is recited and the disciples have the opportunity to listen to the Great Sheikhs words of wisdom.

“Right his name in the book,” said the Beloved of Allah
to Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (RA).
All the Durood Sharif that you recite is maqbool.
You have been chosen by the greatest of creation, Allah’s Rassul
Day and night you strive to revive the Sunnah of
    Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
You are the embodiment of truth, you are our Hazoor.”

One morning Sufi Iqbal Sb (Sahib) took the Sheikh to somebody’s house. The couple presented tea to them. When it was placed on the table the sheikh suddenly felt very uncomfortable and nauseous. Sufi Iqbal Sb was a very close friend of the Sheikh and therefore was good at reading the Sheikhs actions. He understood that something was wrong. So he began to enquire and question the Sheikh. The Sheikh finally replied, “My heart is not satisfied with this tea”. Sufi Iqbal Sb replied, “It’s only tea”, and the Sheikh replied, “If you insist on knowing, the person who has made this tea has not performed the ghusl of janabat”. Sufi Iqbal Sb was astonished at the Sheikhs insight and also refrained from drinking his tea. When they both left the house Sufi Iqbal Sb asked, “How did you know this?” and the Sheikh replied, “Through inspiration”

The couple noticed that both men had not drunk their tea. When Sufi Iqbal Sb arrived home his wife said “I received a phone call from the house you had just visited. They have complained that you and the Sheikh left without drinking tea”. Sufi Iqbal Sb said “The Sheikh didn’t drink his, so I didn’t drink mine”. His wife replied “Why did you not drink the tea? Was there some kind of disagreement between you and the couple?” Sufi Iqbal Sb replied “No” and gave his wife a full explanation about the incident. Sufi Iqbal Sbs wife was also very astonished, she then rang the lady and asked her “Do you mind if I ask you a personal question? When you woke up this morning did you and your husband perform the ghusl of janabat?” She replied “No” and felt very ashamed and added “But how did the Sheikh know of this fact?”

     ------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Sheikh lived in Bradford 3 at 138 Sandford Road and worked in a textile mill called Hill Brothers. The Sheikh had a childhood friend called Sufi Nur Muhammad Sb who also worked in the mill. His friend was not practicing Islam at the time.

In 1975 the Sheikh returned to England with his family from Pakistan, he was amazed to see that Sufi Nur Muhammad Sb had changed. The Sheikh described him as having a glow on his face, which wasn’t there before. There was also sincerity, humbleness and sweetness in his voice. When he spoke to me his words penetrated my heart.

Sufi Nur Muhammad Sb from that day on would invite the Sheikh to Mehfil-e-Zikrs which were held at the Grand Sheikhs house, whenever he went. The Sheikh remembers that Sufi Nur Muhammad Sb never rested until he took his friend(the Sheikh) to the Mehfil-e-Zikrs.

The Sheikh remembers the first time he attended a mehfil with Sufi Nur Muhammad Sb. The mehfil was held under the supervision of Sufi Asghar Sb and the sheikh said that he wasn’t totally satisfied with the gathering, despite the fact that he was seeking spiritual guidance.

Gradually the Sheikh began to attend up to four mehfils a week. During this period the Grand Sheikh was in Pakistan where they would spend approximately 5-6 months a year there.

The Sheikh remembers that there were no more than 8-10 Sufis attending the mehfils at that time. The regular attendees from that group were Sufi Asghar Sb, Sufi Akram Sb, Sufi Muhammad Aslam Khan Sb and Sufi Nur Muhammad Sb.

When the Grand Sheikh returned to England Sufi Nur Muhammad Sb asked the Sheikh to do bayah (repentance) on the hand of the Grand Sheikh. The Sheikh replied “I have been waiting for this moment for a long time, but out of adab (respect) I would first like to invite the Grand Sheikh to my home for a dawat (meal). So the Sheikh invited the Grand Sheikh and his Sufi friends to his home and held a mehfil-e-zikr. During the mehfil the Grand Sheikh engaged the Sufis in abundant zikr, whilst at the same time focusing intense twujjo (concentration) on the Sheikh. They described this memorable moment “As feeling very light and in a state of spiritual ecstasy”.

After repentance, the Sheikh began by perfecting the ‘tasawar’ of his spiritual teacher (Grand Sheikh), as they taught him that this was the first stage of the spiritual path. He would practice the ‘tasawar’ by reciting the blessed ‘khatame-e-khwajgaan shareef day and night. The ‘tasawar’ of the spiritual master would not let them rest until they had completed their daily recitations in full. Initially this would take them approximately two and half hours every day. They remember that, even if it was as late as 2am, they would remain restless until they had recited the khatame-e-khwajgaan shareef. Through the faiz and nigah of the Great Sheikh the whole family was blessed in the same way.

Also, after bayah, with the nigah-e-karam of the Grand Sheikh, the Sheikh adhered very strictly to the Sunnah and Shariah, and implemented it throughout his home. They became very conscious about what they ate i.e. it had to be one hundred percent halal. If they were in any doubt they would just settle on eating vegetables. They said “That halal food was important to sustain a spiritual connection with your spiritual master”.

     ------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Sheikh moved to Blackburn with the Grand Master and lived one door away from them. One night they saw in a dream the words Allah Hoo printed (naqsh) on their heart. This meant that the Sheikh had reached a very important spiritual stage in the Naqshbandi Order. They had become a printer (naqsh) of Allah Hoo. Whoever they look at with love and affection (providing the other person comes with the right intentions) they will print on to their heart Allah Hoo, i.e reviving the heart with the remembrance of Allah.

While living in Blackburn the Sheikh studied and implemented the Grand Masters life very carefully and intricately, not missing out even the smallest of actions. They spent their days and nights in the service and adab (respect) of their spiritual teacher.

     ------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Molvi (scholar) was delivering a speech, in which he recited a verse from the Holy Koran Surah 7 Ayat 10:

‘And certainly, We (Allah) established you in the earth, and have provided there-in the means of your livelihood. But you are seldom thankful’

The Grand Sheikh replied “Molvi Sb I understand what ‘on the earth’ is, but what does ‘in the earth mean?” The Molvi Sb replied “O’Sheikh this knowledge is beyond me”. So the Grand Sheikh said “I will tell you, it means travelling in the earth and seeing the 7 different levels, spiritually, and even then they show humbleness i.e. they do not walk with pride.”

Sufi Amjad Shah Sb has witnessed by hearing the Sheikh say that he has been shown through the nigah-e-karam of the Grand Sheikh different levels of the earth. They said that they “Saw different people on each level, and on each level they spoke a different language”. Also, they mentioned, “All of this was in the spiritual realm and not the physical realm”.

     ------------------------------------------------------------------------

In December 2000, the Sheikh along with approximately 20 students sat itikhaaf in the Prophets Mosque (Medina). One afternoon Sufi Asif Sb relates that he was sat with the Sheikh when a man approached the Sheikh, kissed their hand and sat down in front of them with humbleness and respect. He began by saying “O’Sheikh, I have been in search of a man of Allah for a long time. I have often supplicated (duah) to Allah to show me one of his pious men from the Naqshbandi Order of this present time. It is for this reason that I have decided to sit itikhaaf, as I believe that I will find a man of Allah. I am a Syed (descendant of Rasullallah) and a Sheikh who has fiaz from different orders. Last night O’Sheikh, I saw a dream that you were sat on the Prophets pulpit delivering a khutba (sermon), your face was radiant with noor (light), you had a white beard and you had one of your front teeth missing. O’Sheikh I firmly believe that Allah has guided me in your direction and I would like to do bayah on your blessed hand.” The Sheikh accepted his bayah and gave permission of the Naqshbandi Order.

The man then introduced his father to the Sheikh and said “That they would also like to do bayah on your hand”. The Sheikh showed humbleness to his fathers request and said “Just recite our waziefah and you will receive our faiz.” The man has since then kept regular contact with the Sheikh and has received many benefits as a result of doing bayah on the hand of the Sheikh.

     ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sufi Amjad Shah Sb went to Pakistan in July 2004 with the Sheikh and relates the following incident: Sufi Khalid Sb invited the Sheikh to his house in Wahkannt, district Pindi, for a mehfil-e-zikr. During the mehfil one of the students of the Sheikh, Sufi Ijaz Sb (resident of Pakistan) suddenly began to shake violently and then passed out. Some of the students carried him out of the room. When he regained consciousness he began to speak in English fluently (when he didn’t understand the language). He said that his name was Mr Brown and that he was from England, (at this point the friends understood that Sufi Ijaz Sb had been possessed by a Jinn). He said that he would like to meet the Sheikh. The Sheikh asked him “What do you want?” he replied “I was passing by the mehfil and I heard Sahibzada Amjad Sb reciting Darood Sharif and it sounded very beautiful. I wanted to enter the mehfil and speak to you i.e. to make myself known, so I decided to enter the body of Sufi Ijaz Sb. I would like to accept Islam.”

After accepting Islam on the hand of the Sheikh, the Jinn did bayah and thus entered the Naqshbandi path. He decided to change his name to Mustafa Kareem. The Sheikh told him to spread Islam throughout the Jinns. Alhamdullilah (praise be to Allah) the number of Jinns doing bayah and accepting Islam on the hand of the Shiekh is growing every year and they are receiving the Naqshbandia Aslamiyya faiz.
